For all of the Persians around the world:
300 the movie
In the past couple of days, I have received many emails about this movie and I think I now owe it to all the people of my country to write about this movie.
The Author, Frank miller is a graphic novel writer whose "Sin City" was turned into a movie by himself and Robert Rodriguez in 2005. His next project, "300" concerns the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, between Xerxes, and 300 Spartans.
Xerxes the Great (Persian: خشایارشا, Xerxes, Old Persian: Xšayârša) was a Persian Emperor (Shahanshah) (reigned 485–465 BC) of the Achaemenid dynasty. "Xérxēs" (Ξέρξης) is the Greek transliteration of the Persian throne name Khshayârsha, meaning "Ruler of heroes".
There are many contradicting versions of this historical battle in the history books. If you search the net a little bit you will find some good resources. (You can start from Wikipedia.)
Apart from what actually happened in the battle and who was the real winner and who was fighting better, this movie is giving the most ridiculous portray of Persians. The fact that this movie has been distributed in a time where IRAN is constantly on the news is maybe accidental, but for sure has caused a lot of tension among Persians around the world.
If you look up the movie in the IMDB, it has a high user rating of 8.4/10. This by itself shows the little too much attention which this movie is getting in the first couple days of its public screening.
PERSIANS ARE NOT BLACK, BROWN AND DAEMON LOOKING FIGURES WITH MASKS!
They are not all gay and lesbian!! They do not eat like cavemen during the Achaemenid dynasty which with no doubt is one of the most glorious chapters in the history of Persian Empire.
PERSIANS DO NOT HAVE LONG NAILS AND DO NOT LOOK LIKE BEASTS! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE!
PERSIANS WROTE A DECLARATION OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS 2500 YEARS AGO; one that declares all races and religions to be equal and women to be equal to men!
WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO SHOW THEM AS SAVAGES IN THIS MOVIE?
The battle of Thermopylae is not fictitious, Xerxes was not a vampire and certainly PERSIANS WERE AMONG THE MOST CIVILIZED (IF NOT THE MOST CIVILIZED) NATIONS OF THAT ERA.
I am not the only one; please read on:
" Even some American reviewers noted the political overtones of the West-against-Iran storyline _ and the way Persians in the movie are depicted as decadent, sexually flamboyant and evil in contrast to the noble Greeks. " [The Star]
"It probably comes as no surprise that Marines would like the film.
"I barked and cheered my way through '300' with two fellow Marine infantry officers who have shed blood and tears in the back alleys of Iraq," said Ilario G. Pantano, whose book "Warlord: No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy" details his experiences in Iraq and his criminal case on charges of murdering two Iraqis. He was exonerated and is now a sheriff's deputy in New Hanover County, N.C." [LA TIMES]
"Currently, the U.S. Marine Corps embodies the Spartan code, as shown in the Fallouja battles," e-mailed Bing West, former assistant secretary of Defense and author of two books about Marines in Iraq." [LA TIMES]
It is very interesting that some illiterate idiots are making fun of all of the Persians who feel insulted by this movie!! How would you Americans feel if I make a movie and portray all of the soldiers of Pearl Harbor as barbarous racist homosexuals!? Well this is not the best comparison but hay; that's all the history that Modern America has (Native Indians aside of course!), YOU GUYS DIDN'T EVEN EXIST IN THE TIME OF THE GREAT PERSIAN EMPIRE!

How are you , dude!? Still alive!? You don't want to update your weblog any more!?
Calm down, first of all the "beast" were not even Persians they were from the far east i.e. China. The second thing is that we know that Persians are not all homos. The third and most important thing is that this movie was made as a story being told by a Greek commander to his battle brothers to inspire them, thus reality was "stretched" a bit. This is why the warriors from the east appeared to be beast, and Xerxes was two meters tall. This is fiction not a documentary. The sooner you realize this the better. Now get over it and concern yourself with that loose canon that is Ahmadinejad!
